No Virgins for You.

The more I think about the whole 72 virgins thing, the more I get pissed off. To save time, I'll just bullet my rants.

  • Reward for mass killings of innocent people? What a sick concept.
  • What a way to objectify women or even girls (since I don't think the age is specified) by offering them up as prizes to be won and taken, with or without their consent. Religions never really work out well for women, do they?
  • Why is doing something that is considered "sinful" on Earth suddenly a reward in heaven? What does that say about heaven? Or their values?

This is where the 72 virgins comes from:

"It was mentioned by Daraj Ibn Abi Hatim, that Abu al-Haytham 'Adullah Ibn Wahb narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudhri, who heard Muhammad saying, 'The smallest reward for the people of Heaven is an abode where there are eighty thousand servants and seventy-two houri, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine and ruby, as wide as the distance from al-Jabiyyah to San'a."

Apparently the Houri are Djinn and Humans that are recreated as Virgins after they die.

Apparently the Qu'ran specifically states that ones spouse will be recreated as a virgin when they go to heaven:

"And with them will be their spouses, raised high: for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, having resurrected them as virgins"[Chapter (Surah) Al-Waqi'a (The Event)(56):34-36]

But according to the Qu'ran all Muslims get rewarded with Virgins, not just Martyrs... so I guess women are still rewards and have all their life experiences removed from their minds after death even if they were good and faithful wives to their husbands...

Yes... after more research it appears the 72 Virgins was a mistake here is what was really meant:

After getting nailed by a Navy Seal, Osama made his way
to the pearly gates. There, he is greeted by George Washington.

"How dare you attack the nation I helped conceive!" yells Mr.
Washington, slapping Osama in the face.

Patrick Henry comes up from behind. "You wanted to end the
Americans' liberty, so they gave you death!" Henry punches
Osama on the nose.

James Madison comes up next, and says "This is why I allowed
the Federal government to provide for the common defense!"
He drops a large weight on Osama's knee.

Osama is subject to similar beatings from John Randolph of
Roanoke, James Monroe, and 65 other people who have the
same love for liberty and America. As he writhes on the ground,
Thomas Jefferson picks him up to hurl him back toward the gate
where he is to be judged.

As Osama awaits his journey to his final very hot destination,
he screams "This is not what I was promised!"

An angel replies "I told you there would be 72 Virginians
waiting for you. What did you think I said?"

As the first evidence you gave is probably wrong, because there are a lot of the prophet sayings that are changed, or were not true to start with. But the general rule of thumb is if it’s not in the Quran it has a high possibility of being a lie.

The Quran mentions that women and men for that matter will be recreated, the virgin part does not have to mean all your memories will be erased, why would it mean that? if you have nose job will you forget all the things you smelled before ? or would you forget how it was living with a nose you did not like?

The rewards and heaven and for that matter the whole of the Quran rarely specifies gender, and always means both sexes. there are rare ocasion when a verse is intended for men only or women only.

Don't take it ot he exterem please besides,Why didn't you think that we might have 72 studs waiting for us in heaven :)

I really hope the 72 virgins are like the ones on Family Guy.

Tamara, in the Qur'an it just says that you get rewarded with virgins in heaven (056.036) but it took imams, men who represent the religion, to interpret the number. It then took sickos to then extend such a reward to unsuspecting, horny young men to get them to kill themselves and others. A friend of a friend who is a practicing Muslim told me that he knows those words to be from God. If a believer of a religion gets something like this wrong, how many misunderstandings are carried out in the name of people's God?

Thank you, for being more astute than some, Tamara, and for being so warm in your response! I appreciate your willingness to discuss this without being offended! But boy, I don't know if I could handle 72 studs!! And I sure as hell wouldn't want virgins anyway! Hahahaha!
