'Child-Witches' of Nigeria

How horrifying is this news story of children being abandoned and/or abused by their families because some religious nut brands them as witches?

At what point do you abandon all reason for the sake of your "faith"? What could compel a parent to inflict such pain on their own children? I guess that's kind of answered by the story of Abraham and Isaac... Not being religious, I can't imagine believing so firmly in something I had no proof of that I'd be willing to harm an innocent child, my OWN innocent child at that... And to what end? So someone you believe to be all powerful or is best buds with the all-powerful tells you to kill a child, do you abandon all reason and go along with it without question? And why do religious nuts feel such pride in that kind of blind obedience? Does it make you a higher form of intelligent life to be able to shut down your inner moral compass and rely entirely on the directions of something unseen and unheard?

I really shouldn't tackle anything more complicated than getting into my pyjamas at this hour, but I read the news story and had to share.

I read this story and it horrifies me as well. What can you say? I am a Christian and i know the bible is true. Jesus would never do this or teach others to do this. There is a long history of people who are not disciples of Jesus (the real thing) who mix their own beliefs with something they were told by a false teacher or false prophet. The real demons in this story are the ones sowing pure evil inside these "churches".

The Bible tells us this.

But the Spirit expressly says that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and teachings of demons,
(1Ti 4:1)

You have to understand that there are real demons and they are out there sowing evil and leading astray. When you have these things along with the sin nature of man tied together with false teaching horrible things will result.

demons don’t need to empower some children with "witchcraft". They are doing far far more damage by deceiving these false christians, false prophets and false teachers into leading the simple people of these villages to do purely evil acts.

I want to add one last thing. the local religions of all these peoples have been deceiving them and leading them to do horrible acts on themselves for thousands of years already. This did not just spring up on "innocent" people because of evil Christianity all of a sudden. This is why false Gods must be put out completely. This is why the children of Israel were not allowed to mix with the religions of people in old testament times. Religions of demons have been committing atrocities on children and infants for a long long time. Many today commit atrocities on infants in our culture in the name of no religion at all. Only in the name of their own desires. Their god being their own selves.

If these people were taught the word and prayed for and shown the love of Christ like real christian missonaries do all over the world every day their lives would be filled with joy and hope.

The Story of Abraham and Isaac is nothing like this.

Abraham was the Father of all who are apart of the house of Faith. those who are saved by Faith in Jesus Christ. If you read the story of Abrahams life and Issac his son you will see the clear foreshadowing thousands of years in advance of Jesus Christ Gods only son scarified by the Father for the sins of all the people.

Isaac was born to Abraham miraculously at 100 years old.

Isaac was about 30 years old when he went with his father to make this sacrifice.

They went on a 3 day journey commanded by God to the place of the sacrifice.

Isaac carried the wood of his own sacrificial alter up the hill.

Abraham knew that the promise that God had made was through Isaac and that God would have to "raise him from the dead" in order to fulfill the promise. He had that much faith in God because of what he had already done.

God was *never* at any point going to allow Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. But they went through the whole process up till the last second and God "provided" the sacrifice.

This was all a picture by God of how He himself was going to Sacrifice his only begotten son whom he loves for the sins of the world.

The Bible says this.

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out into a place which he was afterward going to receive for an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he went. By faith he lived in the land of promise as a stranger, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs of the same promise with him. For he looked for a city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. By faith also Sarah herself received strength to conceive seed and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged Him who had promised to be faithful. Because of this came into being from one, and that of one having died, even as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore. These all died by way of faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off. And they were persuaded of them and embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they who say such things declare plainly that they seek a fatherland. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from which they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they stretch forth to a better fatherland, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them. By faith Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac. And he who had received the promises offered up his only-begotten son, of whom it was said that in Isaac your Seed shall be called, concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from where he even received him, in a figure.
(Heb 11:8-19)

You see rather than being a condemnation of religion this is one of the strongest cases of Divine foreknowledge of God. How he foreshadowed thousands of years in advance through he lives of people of Faith that he would offer salvation to all mankind in Jesus Christ.

No other "religion" on earth has such evidences and testimonies of its trueness.

The whole world is filled with deceit and those that are deceiving mankind. But God is True and His Light Shines to all of us and His hand is outstretched to all of us in His son Jesus.

Anonymous, thank you so much for taking the time and effort to educate me on the belief you and many others share. My learning is never done and it's only with the help of people like you who are willing to speak openly and without malice that I will be able to continue my education and understanding of those who have beliefs which differ from mine.

I just think that for some people it is hard to make a distinction between which message is truly what they believe to be "divine" and which come from false Gods. Had he not been stopped, wouldn't Abraham have committed murder, a sin? How did he know this command was truly given by God and not a false God? Who makes the distinction, and how?

Thanks again, your thoughts were very well detailed and I am extremely appreciative of your willingness to educate rather than insult someone who thinks differently to yourself. You're a rare breed, indeed.

Jeffrey Victor wrote a book called Satanic Panic: The Creation of a Contemporary Legend, where he makes a study of witch-hunt hysteria (or "rumor-panic", to use his term). He outlines what he calls a "feedback loop" where a certain group is scapegoated and persecution of that group's members (or alleged members) feeds into the desire to root out more of the supposed evildoers. The loop can't be sustained forever, though, and people do eventually come to their senses. But that doesn't undo the tragedies have been wrought in the meantime.
